  1. Parents' Code of Conduct

    1. Don’t force unwilling children to play sport.

    2. Remember, children are involved in sport for their enjoyment, not yours.

    3. Encourage your child to play by the rules.

    4. Teach your child that honest effort is as important as victory and to accept the result without undue disappointment.

    5. Turn defeat into victory by helping your child with skills improvement and good sportsmanship.

    6. Never ridicule or yell at your child for making a mistake or losing.

    7. Remember that children learn best by example.  Applaud good play by your team and by members of the opposing team.

    8. Don’t publicly question the judgement (and never the honesty!) of referees, umpires and coaches.

    9. Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from children’s sport.

    10. Recognise the value of volunteer coaches and referees who give their time and resources to provide recreational activities for your child.

  2. Players' Code of Conduct

    1. Play for the fun of it, and not just to please your parents or coach.

    2. Play by the rules.

    3. Never argue with the referee.

    4. Control your temper.

    5. Work equally hard for yourself and your team; your team’s and your own performance will benefit.

    6. Be a good sport.  Applaud all good play, whether by your own team or by your opponents.

    7. Treat all players in the manner in which you would like to be treated.  Don’t interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of weaker players.

    8. Remember that the goals of the game are to have fun, improve your skills and feel good.  Don’t show off.

    9. Co-operate with coaches, team mates and opponents; without them you don’t have a game.

    10. Cherish sport for what it is – fun.

    11. Remember, the way adults behave – particularly some of the stars we see on T.V. – isn’t the way you should behave, especially not when starting out in sport.

  3. Coaches' Code of Conduct

    1. Be reasonable in your demands on the young players’ time, energy and enthusiasm.  Remember that they have other interests.

    2. Teach your players that the rules of the game are mutual agreements which no one should evade or break.

    3. In contact games, group players according to age, height, skill and physical maturity.

    4. Avoid over-playing talented players in coaching sessions.  “Average” players need and deserve equal coaching time.

    5.   Remember that children play for fun and enjoyment and that winning is only part of it.  Never ridicule or yell at the children for making mistakes or losing a game.

    6. Ensure that equipment and facilities are appropriate to the child’s age and ability.

    7. The scheduling and length of practice times and games should take into consideration the child’s maturity level.

    8. Develop team respect for their opponents’ ability, as well as for the judgement of referees and opposing coaches.

    9. Follow the advice of a doctor in determining when an injured player is fit again.

    10. Remember that children need a coach whom they can respect.  Be generous with your praise and set a good example.
